Reverend Shallcross retires

15/05/2017 21:30

It is very sad to be saying goodbye to our minister, Reverend Robert Shallcross.  Ever since he joined us 8 years ago, he has shown utter commitment to the church and congregation.  Our church will be a much emptier place without him.  In the words of Mrs Margaret Blair, 'Bible Study meetings will never be the same!'

Although we are saying goodbye to our minister, we're sure this will not be the last we see of him.  We are looking forward to hearing all about his retirement experiences.

At the Retirement Luncheon Muriel Pearce surprised the minister with one of her famous poems ...

The Minister's Retirement 2017

Another step along life's way

And Robert retires to rest and play.

No more sermons or prayers to prepare,

A life full of leisure with never a care.

It was two O O nine when we welcomed you.

Dark haired, fresh faced - and no wrinkles in view.

Were you prepared for a flock like us?

Were you feeling some what anxious?

Well Robert you've managed to weather the storm,

You taught us to think and not just conform.

To think beyond our childhood bounds

And enlarge our vision to higher ground.

You taught us deeper meaning to seek.

You showed off your knowledge of Heberew and Greek.

We were made to sing hymns we scarcely knew

And study Madonna all painted blue ... (A Bible study reference.)

And so Robert we wish Susan and you

A future that's bright and experiences new.

Thank you for all you gave to us whilst here.

God's blessing go with you, our love and our prayer(s).

We wish you all the best in retirement and hope you have a long and peaceful rest, spending time with loved ones and doing everything you want to do with your time off.
